Street Roots, a non-profit organization located in Portland Oregon, creating income opportunities for people experiencing homelessness and poverty by producing a newspaper and other media that are catalysts for individual and social change. Street Roots vendor program has more than 170 active vendors that sell Street Roots in the Portland metropolitan area. More than 500 vendors sell the newspaper during the course of a year. Through its business model, poetry, and reporting on important Portland issues such as affordable housing and mistreatment of migrant workers, Street Roots informs and connects the Portland community to the lives of vendors, who each have committed to overcoming the challenges of homelessness.
