Community Wings

12 years ago written by

During the Summer of 2011, Community Wings took six students to Ghana for a volunteer adventure trip. Two of these students and their media teacher (and Community Wings member) shot this documentary film about the troubling social issue of the Kayayo. The Kayayo are any teenage kids from the rural northern regions of Ghana who travel to the larger southern cities to work as laborers and/or porters in the busy markets.

Community Wings are based of San Diego, California but their development work has, so far, been in West Africa. They have focused primarily on Northern Ghana and, to a lesser extent, Mali, and looking at future projects in India, the Philippines, and always here at home in the United States.

Their mission statement: We believe that people working together foster and create a positive impact on the social climate of the community. We fulfill our goals on a project-by-project basis as we work with business owners, schools, neighborhood associations and local organizations.
