The Story of Videline

This is the story of Videline, a Haitian girl living in poverty in the small town of Fond des Blancs, Haiti. Fond des Blancs is located on the southern peninsula in rural Haiti.  The main town is Sainton and has a population of approximately 10,000.  Approximately 80% of people in this region don't finish 5th grade.  Most rely on subsistence level , with high employment.  Haitian are more likely to be illiterate than men, with a male literacy level of about 74% and a female literacy rate of only 32%.  It is estimated that on ½ as many girls complete secondary as men and just 1/3 of university in Haiti are women. Videline is a member of an all girls soccer team, run by the Haiti Projects, a corporation focusing on initiatives to empower women of rural Haiti toward self-sufficiency.  The   provides access to jobs at fair trade wages, , care, and avenues for building sustainable . Videline not only cultivates friendship and physical activity, but learns about and other life skills.
